About the Role
Zapp Media Services is our retail media proposition: the platform through which brand partners invest in reaching Zapp customers at the moment of purchase. It is one of the most commercially important and strategically exciting parts of our business, and we are looking for the person to build and lead it.
As Director, Founder's Office (Retail Media), you will have direct access to the Founder and a clear mandate to grow ZMS into a scaled, high-margin revenue line. You will write the strategy, build the product, land the partners and own the revenue number. The mandate is direct and comes from the Founder; what you do with it is entirely on you.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Development
Own the ZMS revenue target: build the pipeline, manage the sales process and close brand investment from FMCG and consumer brand partners
Design Zapp's retail media product suite: sponsored placements, homepage takeovers, targeted promotions, off-platform formats and data partnerships
Build compelling media packs and rate cards that communicate the ZMS opportunity clearly to prospective partners
Develop new revenue streams within the retail media model and bring them to market with a clear commercial logic
Brand Partner Relationships
Build and own a portfolio of senior brand partner relationships, acting as the primary ZMS commercial contact at Zapp
Work closely with Category Management to align retail media investment with supplier trading terms and category strategy, ensuring both sides of the relationship pull in the same direction
Develop joint business planning frameworks with key partners that embed ZMS spend into their annual media budgets
Represent ZMS externally at industry events and within the broader FMCG and retail media community
Campaign Performance
Own the end-to-end delivery of retail media campaigns, coordinating with Marketing, Product and Category Management to execute with precision
Build reporting frameworks that give brand partners clear, credible visibility on campaign performance and return on investment
Use performance data to continuously improve the ZMS product and strengthen the commercial case for repeat and increased investment
Partner with Product and Technology to build the on-platform capabilities that make ZMS inventory more valuable over time
Strategy and Infrastructure
Define the ZMS strategy and roadmap: where to play, what to build, how to price and how to scale
Build the internal operating model for retail media, including processes, tooling and team structure as the business grows
Identify where AI can improve targeting, personalisation and campaign measurement within the ZMS product, and work with Product to build those capabilities
Track the retail media landscape and bring a clear perspective on how Zapp should position ZMS relative to emerging formats and competitors
What We're Looking For
6+ years in retail media, media sales, brand partnerships or a senior commercial role within a retailer, marketplace or media owner
A track record of building and closing commercial partnerships with FMCG brands or major advertisers, with real revenue to show for it
A strong understanding of how brand partners plan and buy media, and the ability to build products and proposals that fit their planning cycles and KPIs
Strong commercial and analytical skills: able to build a business case, model revenue scenarios and present performance data with confidence
A self-directed builder who defines the agenda, creates structure where there is none and is energised rather than unsettled by the ambiguity of growing something from scratch
A genuine interest in applying AI to improve campaign targeting, measurement and the overall ZMS product proposition
Familiarity with Looker or other BI tools is a strong advantage
Exposure to quick commerce, grocery or convenience retail is a strong advantage
